Famous Wrappers are hand-cut mixed-media collages created entirely from discarded candy wrappers. Sean Brown uses the wrappers’ colors, typography, metallic foils, and patterns to build detailed portraits and imagery inspired by music, sports, pop culture, places, and personal commissions. From a distance the works appear as bold, colorful portraits and scenes; up close, the individual wrappers reveal themselves, turning everyday waste into intricate original art.
Sean Brown is the mixed-media artist behind Famous Wrappers. For more than 15 years, he has transformed discarded candy wrappers into original works of art inspired by pop culture, music, sports, portraiture, and the world around him. The idea began while Sean was studying fashion design at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where discarded wrappers on city streets caught his attention—not simply as trash, but as wasted color. Their typography, metallic foils, patterns, and vivid graphics became his palette. Every Famous Wrappers original is individually cut, layered, and assembled by hand, transforming something designed to be disposable into artwork intended to last.
