Handmade functional ceramics.
Herb bowls, water pitchers, butter bells, grating bowls and plates, utensil holders
I have been working with clay since I was in high school.
I use P-5 porcelain and Speckled buff clay bodies and I use Amco brand, cone 5 glazes. I roll 3/8" slabs of clay through my slab roller and form my 9x13.5 baking dishes by hand and create two small handles for each side of the baking dish and create my 3 piece serving platter sets with my slab roller. I bisque at 05, give them a scrub bath, and fire over 2,200 degrees. I use my pottery wheel to throw my water pitchers and hand form the handle and mend it on and throw my utensil holders and trim the top edge to give it a unique and functional look. I throw my bacon cookers in two separate pieces, form, create a handle similar to a mug, and puncture a small hold at the bottom to allow the grease to be poured out into a container. I throw my herb bowls and texture the bottom to tenderize meats and added holes to pull herbs through to infuse the flavor into your food. Each piece is scrubbed and fired to cone 5. I buy premade glazes and also brush glaze my more intricate pieces.
