My shell art is inspired by Victorian Era Sailors’ Valentines. I begin by assembling flowers from a variety of shells and sea life. These creations are used to create designs for wall art, including shadow boxes, as well as necklaces, wreaths, trinket trays, “table toppers”, ornaments and magnets. One of my favorite creations is a “bloom” that ascends from a delicate sea urchin. The stems are formed from dentilium tusks, accented with dyed garfish scales for leaves and “grass” of sea urchin spines. To keep the items organic, seeds are used for flower centers. Some of my creations, such as trees and wreaths, are composed from a multitude of single shells. Each item is handcrafted with love and delicate precision.
