My work is “Garden to Table” as each piece is formed after pressing in leaves from my gardens or the woods nearby into the clay then fired maintaining all of the amazing detail. Each piece is then either stained and glazed to accent the details like a photo, or cut out to the large leaf shape.
My passion for texture doesn't just stop with my functional tableware.
Each unique basket starts with a hand- built clay base incorporating real leaf impressions or pressed fabric patterns to create and highlight textures and shapes. The basketry is attached through holes in the rim of the pottery piece and woven with natural or dyed reed using a wicker work technique that I have developed over the last 30 years. The baskets are often embellished with materials such as leather, copper, glass beads, feathers or other unusual finding. Sizes range from 8" up to 42"
I am a North Attleboro, MA artist with degrees in both design and sculpture and life-long love of the natural world and am fortunate to have found a way to combine my passions. Having been constructing baskets since 1978, they have changed vastly over the years, and continue to evolve.
I was honored to have exhibited my baskets at the 2023 Smithsonian Craft Show.
