The Natural Chemist focuses on creating the highest quality and cleanest burning soy wax candles and wax melts. As a trained and working biochemist, I originally set out to create a candle that was as all-natural as possible through experimentation. In my research I found that many fragrances contain harmful chemicals that should be avoided and certainly not inhaled, yet candles are meant to be burned and their aroma enjoyed. Enter Clean Scents; fragrance oils that are certified free of phthalates, all chemicals listed on the California Prop 65 list of cancer causing chemicals, and an additional 5 categories of problem chemicals. Combine these scents with responsibly sourced soy wax from the midwestern United States, and a pledge to never use artificial colors and you have the most natural soy products we can create, and that smell amazing. Crafted in small batches and hand poured into clear glass jars with bronze metal lids and line art style labels, these candles add a rustic yet elegant touch to any room of the house. In addition, our wax melts provide the same wonderful fragrances as our candles but for those who are not allowed to have open flames in their homes, such as those in retirement communities, apartments, or college dorms!

Nick is a co-founder of the Natural Chemist. Nick believes in the power of fragrance, specifically its ability to trigger memories and influence emotions. However, in his research he found that many candles contain harmful chemicals due to loose regulations in the fragrance industry. After this realization. Nick set out to create the cleanest burning candle that he possibly could, and now the Natural Chemist Company offers high quality soy wax candles with fragrance oils that are certified to be free from 5 major classes of harmful chemicals, at a reasonable price. All this because he believes that everyone should be able to enjoy a wonderful smelling candle without worrying about potential harmful effects to themselves, their pets, their children, or their wallets. Nick holds degrees in Forensic Chemistry and Biochemistry making him uniquely qualified to ensure that these candles adhere to his strict quality and safety standards. Residing on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Nick finds inspiration for new products and fragrances by exploring with his partner Marisa, walking the local boardwalks, playing disc golf, and taking walks through local parks.

Marisa is a co-founder of The Natural Chemist. The Natural Chemist began as a date night idea that Nick talked her into while they explored a local craft store. While it took a little longer for Marisa to come around to the idea of making and selling candles, she now enjoys making and pouring candles. However, her favorite, and perhaps most important, duty here at The Natural Chemist is sampling the fragrances to decide which ones will make it in our seasonal lineups, as well as, deciding which ones should be added to our signature line. Marisa is a Physical Therapist by day with a strong desire to help heal others and have them return to a productive, and pain-free life. This desire stretches beyond her main profession and into The Natural Chemist where she tends to gravitate towards fragrances that have calming and healing aromatherapeutic effects. Marisa resides on the North Shore of Massachusetts with her partner Nick, where she enjoys being active and exploring outdoors, playing basketball, and disc golf at local parks. She also enjoys exploring the local food and drink scene and finding fun new places to enjoy good food and cocktails.
