I design and handcraft fine leather bags and accessories, incorporating Trapunto quilting to create beautifully raised and textured patterns. This quilting technique involves layering, stitching, and padding the leather, adding dimension to each piece. I carefully select high-quality leather and hardware to ensure both beauty and durability. Each design I create blends artistry with function for a unique piece that stands out in both craftsmanship and style.
Items I make are handbags, shoulder bags, crossbody bags, wristlets, clutch purses, wallet-type accessories, various style card cases, make-up cases, change purses, key holders,
glass cases, passport cases, journal covers
My passion for leatherwork began while studying fashion design at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and Rivier College. I perfected my leather craft skills while working as an artisan at various leather shops in Cambridge and Cape Cod, MA, and the West Village in NYC. In the 80’s, several siblings and I combined our talents to create Bill Andrews, a wholesale leather company that sold fashionable leather clothing to major NY retailers and upscale boutiques. Branching off from Bill Andrews, I started my own business, Carol Mentos Leather. For many years, I have showcased my designs at artisan fairs throughout New England.
