My signature work began in the late 1980s with a combination of both etching and fusing melded together into uniquely colored items. I love the shimmering rainbow effects achieved through the use of glass, lustres and metal micas, along with line work added with pen and ink, enamels and sandblast etchings. Then beginning in 2007, I started experimenting with a more painterly impressionistic line of landscape work. Primarily sculptural in nature, and using powders, frit, and thin threads of pulled glass, this new work continues to capture images of birch trees, mountain ranges, beaches, and other local landmarks. The work begins with multiple pieces of glass, along with frits, powders and enamels, and are laid out into the desired design/pattern. They are then fired in a kiln at temps between 1100-1650 degs and the glass becomes one solid piece. Each piece is truly unique, as no two pieces will ever be identical. Many of my pieces will be made to order so allow time accordingly.
I am Deborah (Deb) Libby, a fused glass artist living in New Durham, NH. For almost 40 years I have been passionately involved with creating with glass. Starting in 1982, my husband decided I needed a way to relax after I got off my shift as a police officer for the City of Concord, NH. He gave me the gift of a stained glass class and I was immediately hooked. Over the years I moved from traditional stained glass to sandblast carving and kiln fused glass. I began selling my work in the early '90s with Castleberry Fairs & Festivals. I was also juried into the League of NH Craftsmen and had a booth at the Sunapee Fair for 24 years, until health issues forced me to "retire" from the Fair in 2017. With the COVID-19 issue arising this past spring, I felt the time was right to come out of retirement, start creating again and start selling online. My glass work continues to be influenced by all of the natural beauty New Hampshire has to offer and still fills my days with excitement and joy!
